Storm warning for all of Iceland: Dangerous conditions between Keflavík airport and Reykjavík 5719

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a storm warning for today, with a severe gale in all parts of Iceland. Average windspeeds are expected to be around 20 m/s (45 mph). The storm is expected to be most powerful in the south-west, with windspeeds in the capital reaching full storm strngth, 25 m/s (56 mph). 

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has issued a warning to drivers between Reykjavík and Keflavík: A storm from the south along the entire road poses serious danger to drivers. With a full storm, with windspeeds between 24 and 26 m/s (54-58 mph) blowing at the side drivers can lose control of their vehicles.

Drivers crossing heaths in West Iceland, including Mosfellsheiði, between Reykjavík and Þingvellir National Park and Holtavörðuheiði, connecting West and North Iceland, are similarly warned of storm conditions.

The IRCA has also issued a storm warning for the north coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula and the south coast of the Westfjords, in West Iceland.
