The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) has issued a warning to travellers. A strong gale, er more than 20 m/s (45 mph) is expected in Northwest Iceland tonight and in the southeast tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
Travellers should be extra careful tomorrow while driving on highway Route One along the Eyjafjöll mountain range in South Iceland. It's a notoriously windy place and as can be seen on the map above (pink area) the wind will be very strong there in the morning.
This is IMO's prediction for next 24 hours:
Northeast 13 to 20 m/s (29 to 45mph) tomorrow, but 18 to 23 m/s (40 to 51mph) in the southeast. Rather lighter wind late tomorrow and some snowshowers but clearing in the south. Frost 0 to 7 degrees C (32 to 45 F). Temperature above freezing point in some places by the shore. Valid to January 13th, 18 (6pm).
