The allure of Icelandic nature is not least its amazing contrasts and otherworldliness. Traveling in Iceland it's easy to forget you are still on Earth, rather than on some strange alien planet. This becomes even more striking when you view the landscape from the air. The landscape looks like its actually something from a whole different dimension.
The photographs of Italian photographer Massimo Lupidi capture this strange beauty. Lupidi has been traveling and photographing nature and landscapes around the world for more than three decades. He is a frequent visitor to Iceland and has organized both photo tours and workshops in the country. He has now published a book with some of his most beautiful photos of Iceland.
Seeing from a bird's perspective is not consistent with seeing from the ground, Massimo explains.
When you fly and take photographs, shadows lift objects from the ground, allowing the viewer to be drawn into the photograph as if going beyond the real to the more real, …an incredible blend of softness and ruggedness, warmth and coldness, that characterizes the amazing island of ice.
Massimo was able to capture these stunning photographs with the help of a local pilot. I mainly used an Ultralight aircraft, so I could fly much slower and lower allowing me to take my pictures without the orientation of the horizon. The photos are nothing short of stunning, and the 128 page book ICELAND – Visions of Earth, with an essay by Eliza Reid, First Lady of Iceland, is one of the most beautiful photo books of Iceland we at Iceland Insider have seen in a long time.
Stunning A magic land under two perspectives, an alien world says photographer Massimo Lupidi
