Skiers and snowboarders who are eager to start a new season are in luck as most ski resorts have opened for business.
Hlíðarfjall in Akureyri opened last week and the neighbouring towns of Dalvík and Siglufjörður have also opened their ski areas. If you didn’t bring your gear with you, don’t fret because Hlíðarfjall’s ski rental offers a complete range of equipment for alpine and cross-country skiing, and for snowboarding.

The Bláfjöll ski resort, situated east of Reykjavík, is set to reopen today at 5 pm. The area has lovely slopes for skiing and snowboarding as well as cross-country skiing tracks. There is a ski and snowboard rental service on site. A bus will leave from Olís petrol station in Mjódd at 4.15 pm and from Olís in Norðlingaholt at 4.25 pm.
The ski resort in Ísafjörður, Westfjords, has laid a freshly groomed cross-country ski track but has yet to open ski lifts.
