Police Special Forces arrested a group of Icelandic youth who had fired numerous shots by Þingvallavatn lake in the Þingvellir National Park last night.
A group of fishermen who were fishing by the lake called the Police last night to notify them that numerous shots had been fired by a group of youth close by. Police Special Forces were dispatched, as is the procedure in any case where firearms are involved. When Police arrived at the scene the gunmen had left, but the group was apprehended shortly thereafter on Mosfellsheiði heath, on their way to the Capital Region.
According to the local news service visir.is the police confiscated a 22 calibre rifle and a airgun which belong to the father of one in the group. According to reports the youth had borrowed the guns without the father‘s knowledge or permission.
