While monitoring will be continued a geophysicist says there are no reasons to suspect Hekla will erupt in the near future. An information sign has been placed near Hekla for hikers so that in case of an eruption, visitors to the volcano know how to react.

The Icelandic Met Office says that seismic activity has been measured in Hekla for years and that geophysicists have been anticipating an eruption for quite a few years now. It’s not a matter of if, but when Hekla will erupt. One can’t assume it’ll be in the next few years, even though that’s what geophysicists are expecting.

Alive and kicking. The last time Hekla blew it's top of was in 2000.
