Last year, Secret Solstice invited guests to attend a concert deep within Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second largest ice cap. This year, organisers are going bigger and offer a limited number of concert goers the chance to experience a concert deep within Þríhnúkagígur volcano. Only 20 tickets are available to the exclusive event.
“We’re extremely proud to be hosting the first concert to take place inside a volcano. We’ll work closely with tour operator Inside the Volcano, who has been organising tours into Þríhnúkagígar for years,” Ósk Gunnarsdóttir, Secret Solstice’s spokesperson told Fréttablaðið newspaper.
Þríhnúkagígur crater is located close to the Bláfjöll mountain range, a 40-minute-long drive from Reykjavík. After an eruption, the magma chamber of a volcano usually fills up and is sealed with hard, cold lava. However, Þríhnjúkagígur’s magma chamber is empty, making it one of the few places on where one can explore the heart of a volcano.
According to Ósk, ticket holders will be transported by helicopter to the concert venue. The concert takes place on Saturday 18th of June.
