Two women who got lost yesterday in the fog in the central highlands were rescued by local search units. According to the National Broadcasting Service, the women were transported to hospital where they were treated for exhaustion.

“Weather conditions in the area yesterday were poor. Visibility was limited which resulted in the two women getting lost. They managed to set up tent and rescue units were able to stay in contact with them the entire time through the Rescue Me app which also provided searchers with the hikers’ exact location,” an announcement from SARS read.
During the search, rescuers found two additional hikers who had gotten lost on Fimmvörðuháls trail. They were assisted back to safety.
