Police, Search and Rescue Units as well as friends and family continue the search for young local woman who went missing on Saturday. Police told reporters yesterday that the disappearance of the 20 year old Birna Brjánsdóttir had received absolute priority.

Driver of red Kia Rio has not yet come forward
Police is still searching for the driver of a red Kia Rio which is seen driving on Laugavegur street in downtown Reykjavík near the location where she is last spotted by surveillance cameras. Anyone who has any information about Birna or the red Kia Rio are urged to contact the Metropolitan Police, +354 444 1000, by email [email protected] or through the Facebook page of the Metropolitan Police.
Yesterday Police released a video with the footage from surveillance cameras in downtown Reykjavík showing Birna walking along Laugavegur. The video is about 1 minutes and 30 seconds long. Birna is last seen near the intersection of Laugavegur and Klapparstígur streets.
The next surveillance camera to the east on Laugavegur is at house number 31: Footage from this camera does not show Birna. Police believes the explanation is that Birna either entered an automobile between the camera at the corner of Laugavegur and Klapparstígur, or alternatively that she walked too close to the wall for the camera to pick up her picture. Since Birna cannot be seen on any cameras further east on Laugavegur she would then have had to turn left down Vatnsstígur street.
At the same time Birna is seen in the footage from the camera on the corner of Laugavegur and Klapparstígur the camera at Laugavegur 31 picks up a red Kia Rio. The car is then seen 15-16 seconds later driving past the camera where Birna was last seen. The Police believes the driver of the car could have vital information about what happened to Birna.
Signals from Birna's mobile phone indicate that she entered a car shortly after she was last picked up by surveillance cameras on Laugavegur. The last signal from her phone is picked up at 5:50 in the suburban municipality Hafnarfjörður, south of Reykjavík. Shortly thereafter the phone is turned off manually.
Anyone with information about a red Kia Rio, seen driving where Birna disappeared, or Birna is urged to come forward.
Birna is 170 cm tall (5 ft 7 in), slender (70 kg/154 lbs), with long light red hair.
