Search and Rescue Teams unable to locate lost woman 743

13. mar 2023 20:01

On June 11th families of two women, one Icelandic the other Spanish, contacted Search and Rescue Teams as they had not heard from them for a few days. Shortly after the search began, the Spanish woman’s body was found.

The two women had travelled to Fljótshlíð, both in their thirties. According to mbl.is, the two women were staying at a cabin in the area and had gone out for a walk on Saturday. Shortly after S&R had been called out, the body of the foreign woman was found, but there’s still no sign of the Icelandic woman.

170 people have participated in the search for two days now. Footprints were found within a 4km radius to Bleiksárgljúfur Canyon but they did not lead to the woman. The women’s clothing was found near the canyon and it’s suspected that the two women intended to swim in the ravine.

A search behind the waterfall and in a cave was unsuccessful last night and police believes every creak and crevice of the canyon has now been searched.

Search and Rescue Teams met this morning and are continuing their search. As reported by visir.is, no new clues have surfaced.
