Four men, who search and rescue teams had been searching for last night, were found safe and sound this morning. The men, who had gone horseback riding across Kjölur mountain road with a pack of horses, were reported missing yesterday evening when they failed to arrive at their destination at an appointed time. According to the National Broadcasting Service the men became lost in heavy fog yesterday.
One of the men had gotten separated from the group and found his way to Áfangi lodge this morning. His companions were later found near Friðmundarvatn lake where they had managed to drive the herd into a pen and awaited assistance.
“We located the men at around 8 am this morning. They were in good health but tired and hungry,” Þór Sævarsson, who partook in the search, told the National Broadcasting Service.
