A scuba diver is in critical condition after an incident at Silfra fissure shortly after noon today, Thursday, reports Vísir.
Silfra is situated close to the shore of Þingvallavatn lake in Þingvellir National Park. It's a huge attraction among divers, who can literally swim between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates while diving in the fissure.
Ólafur Arnar Haraldsson, park ranger at Þingvellir National Park, said the diver was treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to hospital in Reykjavík. The Selfoss Police Department is investigating the incident.
