Members of the Scout Movement in Iceland will take part in the Gay Pride parade on Saturday in order to support human rights.

“By this we want to show our countrymen that we are an open-minded and varied group of people,” says Inga Auðbjörg Kristjánsdóttir, a member of the Icelandic Scout Movement. During the parade the scouts will wear their traditional uniform but carry rainbow-coloured scarfs.

“Some consider the movement to be a bit stagnated. In the States, for instance, gay men are not welcome in the organization,” she continues. “Here we want to be part of the festivities and the joy that surround this event.”

The parade starts at the BSÍ Bus Terminal at 2 pm and runs through the city’s down-town.
