Students finishing their final year in Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík (MR), Reykjavík Junior College, gathered outside the school’s main building in down-town Reykjavík today and said their goodbyes. Dressed as Scots, tigers and traffic cones, the students bade their teachers farewell, some even shedding a tear during the emotional moment.
The students will begin to prepare for their final exams next week and are set to graduate in May. But today they celebrated nearing the end of their secondary education. The event is called ‘dimmisjón’ or ‘dimmitering’ in Icelandic, and is something most Icelandic students participate in.
MR is the oldest junior college in Iceland, tracing its origins all the way back to 1056.
