NASA's fantastic Earth Observatory page has published a new image of the ongoing Holuhraun eruption showing the growth of the new lava field since September. You can inspect the changes in the great Image Comparison mode on the page. It's highly recommended!
The new satellite image was acquired on January 3rd while the older was aquired on September 6th, a mere week after the eruption started. The volcanic fissure in Holuhraun has been erupting non-stop since August 31st.
The new Holuhraun lava field now covers an area 84.4 square km (32.2 sq mi) in size.
The eruption could be clearly seen on web cameras this morning and according to the Icelandic Met Office seems to be of similar strength as in previous days.
