According to Jón Viðar Arnþórsson, one of the owners of MMA club Mjölnir, actor Ryan Gosling had expressed an interest in opening an outlet in Los Angeles. The actor trained at the club in 2013 while editing his directorial debut with Icelandic editors Valdís Óskarsdóttir and Sigurður Eyþórsson.
With close to 2000 members, Mjölnir MMA is one of the biggest gyms in Iceland. The club offers a number of popular classes, including Víkingaþrek (Viking conditioning), yoga, movement classes, MMA, boxing, kickboxing, and BJJ. The club has also produced a number of internationally acclaimed fighters, Gunnar Nelson being the most famous. Russel Crowe also trained at the gym when filming Noah.
In an interview with Morgunblaðið newspaper, Jón Viðar said Gosling was so impressed with Mjölnir that he wanted to open an outlet in LA. However, the idea never saw the light of day.
Still, the club continues to grow and will soon move to bigger and better facilities in Öskjuhlíð, located next to the Pearl. The club also intends to open an outlet in Vestamannaeyjar Islands, south Iceland.
