Heavy rain and possible flooding is expected in western and southern regions today due to a series of low-pressure systems travelling over the country, warns the Icelandic Met Office. 120 mm of rain is expected to fall near Mýrdalsjökull glacier, south Iceland, within the span of 12 hours (between 6pm today and 6am tomorrow).
Rescue crews in the greater capital area worked throughout the night assisting people as yesterday’s heavy winds, gusting up to 20 metres per second (45 mph/72 km per hour), damaged trees, garden furniture, and trampolines. A rescue vehicle was damaged as a huge marquee that was erected to host the National University’s annual Octoberfest crashed into it.
