The Civil Defence in Húsavík, North Iceland, has decided to close the roads leading to Gæsavötn lakes, Dyngjufjall mountain and Herðubreiðarlindir to traffic until further notice. The chief legislative official in Húsavík, Svavar Pálsson, says officials are keeping track of travels to and from the area.
Seismic activity in Bárðarbunga volcano, central highlands, has been ongoing since Saturday, August 16th. However, there are still no signs of magma moving to the surface.
“It is necessary to restrict traffic to the area for the time being,” Svavar explained in an interview with Fréttablaðið newspaper today.
Officials are able to contact travellers in a number of ways, including through text message and local information centres.
