British Pathé the U.K. newsreel archive company has posted to YouTube in high resolution its entire collection of films, among them are many compelling historic clips of Iceland.

British Pathé is one of the oldest media companies in the world. Its roots lie in 1890s Paris where the founder, Charles Pathé, pioneered the development of the moving image.

The collection, which spans 1896 to 1976, comprises some 3,500 hours of historical footage of major events, notable figures, fashion, travel, sports and culture. It includes extensive film from both World War I and World War II.

The Iceland clips are several dozens, dating from 1931 to 1969. The geothermal energy of Iceland is a recurring theme and so is Iceland's nature.

This is beautiful stuff.  Overview is here on British Pathé's You Tube page.
