The entire stretch of road between Vík and Höfn is extremely hazardous due to ice and slippery conditions and strong winds. The stretch of road between Lómagnúpur mountain and the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon has been closed entirely for safety reasons.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office is warning of heavy snow and storm force winds in South East Iceland between noon and five in the afternoon. Extremely strong wind gust, reaching 35-45 meters per second (78-100 mph) are expected in South East Iceland in the area from the town of Vík east to the town of Höfn. Wind gusts of this strength can easily blow cars off the road. The wind is not expected to slow down until this evening.
The weather in the West and South West is expected to be fair, with calm winds and some snow.
