Ring Road closed between Seljalandsfoss waterfall and village of Vík due to severe weather 7579

Due to severe gale and dangerous driving conditions the Ring Road has been closed between Seljalandsfoss waterfall and the village of Vík in South Iceland. A Yellow Weather Alert is in effect for South and South East Iceland. Drivers are cautioned to show extra caution, as powerful winds, combined with snow and icy roads contribute to challenging driving conditions.

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority has now closed the Ring Road between Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Vík. Dangerously powerful windgusts on the road along Eyjafjöll mountain range in the foothills of Eyjafjallajökull glacier as well as in Reynisfjall mountain pass west of Vík pose risks to drivers. 

The IRCA expects the road will remain closed until late tonight. Travellers are asked to study the weather forecast as well as updated weather alerts and road conditions carefully.
