The Ring Road 1, connecting West and North Iceland cross the heath. The road in Brattabrekka hill in West Iceland has also been closed. Brattabrekka connects the Ring Road and the north coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a storm warning for the entire country today. Gale force winds with an average wind speed of 20-28 m/s (45-63 mph), in all parts of Iceland. Individual gusts can be expected to reach as much as 45 m/s (100 mph). Parts of West Iceland, especially the south coast of the Westfjords will see the most powerful winds. Snow and sleet make driving more difficult. The IRCA has also warned of ice or snow on the ring road in all parts of Iceland.
