Eyland was founded two years ago by Ása Ninna Pétursdóttir, a Jack of all trades when it comes to fashion: she studied design at the Icelandic Academy of Arts, has worked as a buyer, stylist, and is currently the creative director and manager of the fashion stores GK Reykjavík and Suit.
Patti Smith’s hit “Because the night” was the opening soundtrack for Eyland’s very fist fashion show, sung live by the talented Elín Ey as models marched at a quick pace down the runway. There was a lot of leather and suede while flat top military style caps acted as centre pieces for most of the looks. The colour palette consisted mostly of bright blue, black, gold and grey colours, the style a feminine take on military uniforms; it made you think of an empowered business woman that gives orders instead of taking them.
