In honour of the International Silly-Walks Day on Saturday the City of Reykjavík will unveil its first Silly-Walk Crosswalk. The International Silly Walk Day has been held annually on January 7 since 2012 for no purpose other than to spread the idea and practice of silly walking. At least there is no information on the purpose of the walks on the official page of the walk. (see here).

Silly walking was made famous by Monty Python's John Cleese in one of the most memorable scetches of the British comedy group Monty Python.

The City of Reykjavík has decided to join this international celebration in an official manner, dedicating a crosswalk in downtown Reykjavík to silly walks. An official announcement from the City of Reykjavík explains that the purpose is to have fun and make others happy. The crosswalk will be dedicated at 14:00 on Saturday in an official ceremony where Icelandic actors and celebrities will attempt to live up to the masterful steps of John Cleese.

Monty Python and Star Wars
This is not the first time the City of Reykjavík has found ways to honor pop culture heroes. In 2015 the city re-named a street after Star Wars Darth Vader.
