Reykjavik will soon be getting its first large-scale data center. The state of the art data center, will be sustainable and powered by green renewable energy. The center will also make use of the cool weather in Iceland to limit or eliminate energy spent on cooling.
On the Ring Road out of Reykjavík
The data center will be constructed next to the Ring Road in a suburb of the City. A big box strip mall called Korputorg is already located at the site. The construction store Bauhause is located opposite the site where the data center will be built.
Construction of the data center is scheduled to begin shortly and the 5,000 square meter (540,000 sq ft) structure is expected to be completed early 2019.

The tier III datacenter is expected to be the most modern and high tech in Iceland. It will be owned by the telecommunications and IT firms Opin Kerfi, Vodafone Iceland and Reiknistofnun Bankanna, RB, the IT Service Center for the Icelandic Financial Market, as well as Korputorg Real Estate ltd. The first major customer will be RB, which will make the new facility its primary data center. RB is owned by Icelandic financial institutions and operates all the key core banking systems and clearing and payments systems in Iceland.

International data centers have been in operation in Iceland for close to 10 years and Iceland reputation as a data center location is strengthening. A recent analysis by Cushman & Wakefield ranked Iceland at the top of international low-risk index.
