The annual Reykjavík Jazz Festival begins Wednesday, 10 August. The music event is organised by the Jazz Department of the Icelandic Musicians Union (FÍH) and takes place in Harpa Music Hall.
The festival kicks off with the Jazz Parade through Reykjavík’s city centre on Wednesday afternoon at 5pm.
According to the festival’s director, Sunna Gunnlaugsdóttir, the event has done much to draw focus to Icelandic jazz music.
“In recent years, Icelandic music has become more established, Icelandic jazz included. We’ve many talented musicians that have been making a name for themselves internationally and that’s one of the reasons we’ve been able to attract so many international artists to perform at Reykjavík Jazz Festival,” Sunna told the National Broadcasting Service.
