Reykjavík gets into the Christmas spirit: downtown skating rink opens today 5533

Every year Ingólfstorg square becomes the center of Christmas activities in downtown Reykjavík, as it is turned into a Christmas village for the Holiday season, complete with a small Christmas market and an ice skating rink. The formal opening of the market and the rink will take place today (Thursday) at 17:00.

According to the City of Reykjavík the square is decorated with more than 40,000 light bulbs which will illuminate the rink and the small Christmas market. Visitors will be able to buy hot chocolate, hand-made designs, Christmas trees, traditional smoked leg of lamb, bjúga sausage, home-made sweets, roasted almonds, carved whale teeth from the Westman Islands and other lovely home-made foods and goods.

Entrance to the ice skating rink is free of charge, and guests can rent a pair of ice skates and a helmet for 990 ISK (7 Euros/7.4 USD). 

Opening hours: 12 to 22 (12pm-10pm) from 1 December to 1 January.
