Reykjavík city intends to build more public restrooms around the city centre in an effort to improve tourist facilities in the city. 535 million ISK (3,956,807 Euros/4,369,844 USD) have been earmarked for the project, according to Vísir.is.
The proposal suggests installing new toilets on Ægisíða, Nauthólsvík geothermal beach and by Mt Esja, among other places, and to improve existing restrooms.
Hildur Sverrisdóttir, who’s a member of the city council, believes 353 million ISK is too big amount to spend on public restrooms and wants the city to design a contract that obliges public buildings such as swimming pools and museums to service tourists in need.
