Search and rescue units in south Iceland were activated twice yesterday, Tuesday, to assist travellers in danger.
According to Vísir, a group became trapped on cliffs on Reynisfjara beach as the rising tide and heavy waves went right up to the cliff face. A Coast Guard helicopter was also called to the scene. The helicopter turned out to be unnecessary as the people were eventually able to climb down unassisted.
A vehicle got stuck in the waters of Skyndidalsá river. The four passengers exited the vehicle but could not wade back to shore due to heavy currents.
Please note, when in doubt about whether to cross or not, a good rule to follow is: Do not drive into rivers that you would not attempt to wade into.
