CNN has just published a fantastic travel story on Svínafellsjökull, an outlet glacier from Vatnajökull glacier, which is a stand-in for alien planet in director Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi film Interstellar.

The film has opened in theaters to great reviews. Some scenes of the film were shot Vatnajökull glacier's Svínafellsjökull outlet in Southeast Iceland in 2013.

Barry Neild, CNN's reporter, explains that although Svínafellsjökull doesn't have a lengthy role in Interstellar, … It looks so incredible, I wanted to see it for myself.

Neild takes the reader on a great roadtrip in Iceland and all the way up on the glacier wearing crampons and an ice ax. A highly recommended read indeed.
