An ice replica of the Sun Voyager sculpture came in third place at the 2017 World Ice Art Championships in Alaska. An Icelandic ice-sculpture artist, Ottó Magnússon and three team members carved the replica of one of Reykjavík's best known landmarks.

Every year artists from around the world. gather in Fairbanks Alaska to compete in ice carving. Ottó was the only Icelander to compete. The Sun Voyager replica competed in the Multi Block competition, and the Abstract category. The construction of the piece took 300 hours of work by four men.
In addition to receiving third price in its category, the Sun Voyager received the Facebook Viewers Choice Award.
