Remains of hurricane Nicole will hit Iceland on Wednesday 1653

13. mar 2023 20:40

The strongest hurricane to hammer Bermuda in 13 years is on its way to Iceland over the open waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. Hurricane Nicole hit the Atlantic archipelago last Thursday with gusts over 160 km/h (100 mph) in spots. Thankfully Nicole will have become a post tropical when it arrives in Iceland on Wednesday but the wind speed will nevertheless be considerable accompanied by precipitation.

When making travel plans keep in mind that gusts could become quite strong, specially in West Iceland .

However, the weather will be quite good around Iceland Monday and Tuesday according to The Icelandic Met Office (IMO), the calm before the storm.

IMO’s forecast

Monday and Tuesday: Easterly wind 3-8 m/s (7-18 mph/11-29 km/h) today, but turns westerly tomorrow of similar strength. Light rain in most parts of Iceland. Temperature 5 to 10 degrees C (41-50 F).

Wednesday: Becoming south 15-23 m/s (34-51 mph/54-83 km/h), strongest in the west. Rain or drizzle, but mainly dry in the north and east parts. Becoming warmer, temperature 8 to 15 degrees C (46-57 F) in the afternoon, warmest in the northeast.

Thursday: South 18-23 m/s (34-51 mph/54-83 km/h), and rain until afternoon, but dry in the northeast. Remaining warm weather. Decreasing wind and rain in the afternoon and becoming colder.
