Think the Yule Lads are just old tales and myths? Well think again! According to the diary of the Metropolitan Police officers were notified of a strange man who had engaged in illegal and disturbing Yule-Laddery early Saturday morning.

The Yule Lads are a disturbing lot

Police has not released any further information on the incidence or the intruder, but to us at Iceland Insider this looks like a X-File if there ever was one: The Yule Lad who comes to town on December 16 is none other than Pottaskefill or Pot-Licker. Like several of his brothers Pottaskefill breaks into people's homes to steal leftovers or unattended foods.

The 1932 Yule Lad poem by Jóhannes úr Kötlum describes Pottaskefill in the following manner:

Pot Scraper, the fifth one,
was a funny sort of chap.
When kids were given scrapings,
he'd come to the door and tap.
And they would rush to see
if there really was a guest.
Then he hurried to the pot
and had a scraping fest.
