Judging the quality of rams is an ancient and important art. According to the local news site Húnahornið there is always a large number of participants in the competition. Participants compete either as expert ram-judges or novice ram-friskers.
Old fashioned Icelandic meat soup will be served during the competition and the Sheep Farming Centre café, Kaffi Kind (Café Sheep) will offer a traditional Icelandic pastry buffet.
The Sheep Farming Centre operates a museum which showcases everything relating to the Icelandic sheep, its role in Icelandic society, culture and history. The centre is located at the farm Sævangur, just south of the village of Hólmavík by Steingrímsfjörður fjord in the Westfjords and can be reached by road 68. The competition begins at 2 pm.
