Foreign investors have not contacted the Icelandic Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs about buying Keflavík International Airport. Benedikt Jóhannesson, the minister of finance and economic affairs, told parliament yesterday that the privatization of the airport was not on the government's agenda.
A debate over the potential privatization of the airport has raged since the majority of the parliament's finance committee proposed selling state assets at the airport to finance investment in transport infrastructure last month.
Privatization not out of the picture
Responding to an opposition MP's question in parliament yesterday, the minister said he had not formed an opinion on selling the airport. The matter had not been discussed within the government, according to local news site Mbl.is.
However, the minister refused to rule out a potential sale, even though he stressed it was currently not on the agenda.
