The support for prime minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson's party is rooted to the bottom according to a new poll by Capacent. The Progressive Party (Framsóknarflokkurinn) received 24.4% of the vote in the 2013 elections but the support has now more than halved and is down to 11.1%.
The Progressive Party's coalition partner, the Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn), is supported by 27.1% in the new poll, which is on par with the results of the elections (26.7%).
The support for the coalition government is 36.6%. The government parties were voted into power with 51.1% of the popular vote in the spring of 2013.
According to the poll the Social Democratic Alliance (Samfylkingin) has 20.3% share of the support (12.9% in the elections) and is the second largest party in the country, Bright Future (Björt Framtíð) has 12.8% (8.2% in the elections), the Left Greens (Vinstrihreyfingin grænt framboð) has 12.8% (10.9% in the elections) and the Pirate Party 10.7% (5.1% in the elections).
Other parties, which do not have representatives in the parliament, are supported by 5.1% according to the poll.
Another poll published by Capacent in late December shows that the Progressive Party is only supported by 5.6% of the voters in Reykjavík making it the smallest party in the capital.
