Prime minister's party is the least popular party in the parliament 285

According to a new poll by Market and Media Research MMR, the coalition government of the Progressive Party (Framsóknarflokkurinn) and the Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) has the support of 34.8% of the nation.

The parties were voted into power with 51.1% of the popular vote in the spring of 2013. Combined support for each individual party is bigger than for the coalition.

The poll shows that the Progressive Party, Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson's party is especially hit hard. In the 2013 elections the party got 24.4% of the votes, now support for the party has plunged to 9.4%.

The Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn), is supported by 27.3% in the new poll, which is close to the results of the elections (26.7%).

According to the poll Bright Future (Björt Framtíð) has 16.9% (8.2% in the elections) and is the second best supported party in the country, the Social Democratic Alliance (Samfylkingin) has 15.9% share of the support (12.9% in the elections), the Pirate Party has 12.8% (5.1% in the elections) and the Left Greens (Vinstrihreyfingin grænt framboð) 11.9% (10.9% in the elections).

No party, that does not have members at Alþingi, Iceland's parliament, receives above 1% support.
