A number of primary school teachers gathered at Ingólfstorg in central Reykjavík today to rally for improved wages. A meeting with representatives from the municipal governments and Teacher's Union is currently on-going as for 16:00GMT this afternoon. Teachers have announced another 24-hour strike on May 21st, and a third one on May 27th, should a wage-agreement not be reached by then.
Primary schools across Iceland were closed today as teachers went on a 24-hour strike. Teachers have been without a contract for two years and are tired of the lack of initiative by the Municipal Governments.
