The price of renting a car at Keflavík Airport has dropped significantly in the past two years, a new study by the local news site Túristi reveals. The cheapest rental option at Keflavík now costs 20,000 ISK for a week's rental. Two years ago travellers could expect to pay at least 7,000 ISK more for a week's rental of a similar car.
Túristi points out that due to the appreciation of the Icelandic currency, the Króna, the drop in prices is less when converted to US dollars or Euros, or 15-18%. For British visitors the drop in the value of the UK Pound, following Brexit, means that the lower price of rental cars at Keflavík is swallowed by the less favorable exchange rate.
Despite the price drop rental cars are still relatively expensive at Keflavík, when compared to other major airports. Rental cars are only more expensive in two other Nordic countries, at the Oslo and Stockholm airports.
