Wind velocity has already started to pick up today in the south of Iceland and heavy showers are expected for the next 24 hours. Due to the heavy rain it is possible that there will be mudslides and overflowing in rivers. Travellers are requested to check weather conditions before embarking on their travels within the country.

In western parts of Iceland winds will reach speeds of 10-18 meters per second and there will be considerable gusts in the north of Snæfellsnes peninsula and mountains in the western regions as well as in the southwest. There will also be powerful winds in the mid highlands, especially around the northern parts of Vatnajökull glacial.

For those staying in the capital, expect heavy rain that will shorten up tonight. The speeds from the north-westerly winds will reach 8-13 meters per second.
