Beloved Reykjavík café is set to close unexpectedly this summer, reports Morgunblaðið newspaper. Tíu dropar, a small friendly café situated in the basement of an old house on Laugavegur 27, has been a popular spot among locals for over three decades.
Vietnam Restaurant ehf. recently bought the property and hastily revoked Tíu dropar’s lease. An announcement from the café’s owners stated that they had unsuccessfully tried to reach a new tenancy agreement with Vietnam Restaurant ehf.

“Closure is inevitable and the staff and owners now face the financial and emotional distress that comes with it,” the statement read. However, owners hope to be able to reopen the café at a different location at a later point.
Tíu dropar is a small, traditional café that serves good coffee and mouth-watering Icelandic pancakes and ‘kleinur’. After 6 pm it transforms into Le Chateau des Dix Gouttes, where one can enjoy a nice glass of wine (or coffee) and live jazz music by candle light.
