Poor travel weather in the South and West today, Wednesday 2096

A strong gale warning is in effect for the south and west coast today.

Southwesterly winds are expected to reach more than 25 metres per second (90 km/hour, 56 mph) in South and West Iceland accompanied with some rain or sleet.

Northwesterly winds and hail or snowfall is expected in the northeast and east by late noon.

Temperatures will range between 0 to -8 degrees Celsius (18 Fahrenheit), becoming warmer tomorrow afternoon. 

Road conditions will be poor in South and West Iceland today with slick roads and limited visibility. Very strong blasts of wind are expected in Kjalarnes, 20 minutes north of Reykjavík, and by Mt. Hafnarfjall near Borgarnes, West Iceland.

There is considerable avalanche danger in Tröllaskagi, North Iceland, and in various places in the Westfjords and Eastfjords.
