Pollution emitted in the United States drifting over to Iceland 1874

According to Vísir pollution emitted in the United States will periodically drift over to Iceland. A thick haze, most likely from the State’s east coast, was measured 5 kilometres (3 miles) above the Holuhraun area on January 22.

The haze was discovered by chance, says meteorologist Haraldur Ólafsson. A team of meteorologists were measuring the substance of the volcanic haze above the Holuhraun eruption when they found air pollution of a different variety hovering in the skies above the central highlands. According to Haraldur a strip of clean air was detected between the two layers of pollution.

“Should the soot be deposited on snow and ice in the Arctic it will accelerate melting. This will in turn affect the climate in the North Atlantic, and later, around the whole world,” Haraldur explained.
