The Police in North Western Iceland warn motorists in Blönduós village, by Húnaflói Bay in North Western Iceland, that there are a large number of geese promenading in town. Most of the geese that are in the town are flightless young birds that hatched this spring in the island of Hrútey in the river Blanda, which runs through town.
In a note on the Facebook page of the Police in North Western Iceland motorists are reminded that the flightless geese are also unfamiliar with traffic laws, and that motorists must therefore show extra care when sharing the road with the jaywalking birds.
One accident has already claimed the life of 26 birds!
This morning a motorist, who was driving into town failed to take into the possibility of encountering geese into account, and drove straight into a flock of geese, killing and injuring 26 birds. The injured birds had to be put down by police.
