The Metropolitan Police has issued a warning, urging people to be on the lookout for forged 5,000 ISK banknotes. Several cases of forged banknotes have come the attention of the police, suggesting someone is attempting to circulate forged bills. The forgeries are crudely made, and appear to have been printed in a regular commercial computer printer.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that the forgeries are, well very easy to spot if people pay even minimal attention.
The easiest way to spot the forgeries is to look out for the four security features on the bills:
• They lack a watermark
• They lack a metallic security strip
• They lack elevated braille or other elevated features
• They lack gilding. Gilded areas are printed in orange brown
All the forged notes Police has received have the serial numbers F22844754, G01031432 or F14388213.
Anyone who receives or has a note which lack the security features or the above serial numbers is urged to contact Police immediately by calling 112.
