According to the local newspaper Fréttablaðið neighbors witnessed Thursday's episode. Hafþór is, among other things, accused of having barred the woman from leaving his apartment. When the woman was unable to leave through the front door she fled through the kitchen window. She then sought help from Hafþór's neighbors who called the police.

Fréttablaðið reports that this is the third domestic disturbance call police responds to at Hafþór's residence. The first incidence took place on December 30, after the couple had split up. The woman is said to have been bruised all over her body after some of the altercations with the strongman.

Hafþór told Fréttablaðið that he didn't want to discuss the allegations in detail: This is a delicate private matter, he said. I am very sad that I am coming across as some bad guy. The cause of the trouble is a Pomeranian dog called Asterix whose custody the couple has argued over.

His name is Asterix. On Thursday I was allowed to have the dog, but she doesn't want me to have the dog, and wants to come over when I wanted to keep the dog overnight. He's a wonderful dog, and I love him a lot. You know how things can turn ugly when people break up, things get heated and we start arguing.

He stressed that he only tried to stop the woman from leaving.
