Police in Reykjanes peninsula were put on high alert during the weekend as shots were reported in a village on the peninsula. Residents reported that man had been seen, and heard, wildly firing a shotgun in his yard, causing considerable concern in the neighbourhood.
When police arrived at the scene it was revealed the man was an experienced outdoorsman and hunter, just home from an exceptionally successful hunting trip. He had just arrived home with his catch, geese and fish, which he had hung up on poles by his house. The regional news site Víkurfrettir reports that the catch had caught the attention of a raven “who seemed to believe he was entitled to a share of the catch, judging by how persistent he was.”
According to the police the man had finally lost his temper and run out of options attempting to chase the raven off, pulling out his shotgun to fire at the bird. “But, as he resorted to this defensive maneuverer he violated weapons laws and the police therefore confiscated his shotgun”, as Víkurfréttir puts it.
