Late last night a pair of boots was found near the harbour in the suburban town of Hafnarfjörður. The boots match the description of those worn by a 20 year old local woman, Birna Brjánsdóttir, who disappeared early Saturday morning. The pair of boots was found near the location where a telecommunications antenna picked up a signal from Birna's mobile phone at 5:50 AM.

The boots are currently considered to be the most important clue Police is working with. They are the same color, style and size as those Birna was last seen wearing. However, the Police has not confirmed whether the boots belong to Birna. Investigators suspect they might have been planted at the scene.

The boots were found by volunteers who are participating in the search, the local news site Vísir reports. Police has not yet confirmed whether the boots are Birna's, but some have pointed out that the soles of the boots had snow, indicating the person wearing the boots had walked in the snow. The weather was relatively warm when Birna disappeared on Saturday, and most of the snow on the ground fell yesterday.
