Shortly after midnight the Metropolitan Police paid a visit to a bar in downtown Reykjavík after receiving a call that a foreign traveller who was a guest at the bar seemed to have consumed a little too much alcohol. The man was described as completely wasted.
When police arrived at the restaurant they discovered the man had gotten to the stage where he was no longer able to recall or communicate basic personal information, like his name or nationality, let alone explain to the officers where he was staying. The man was therefore taken into custody, not least to protect him from himself, and transported to the downtown jail at Hverfisgata street. The man was given a cell to sleep off his drunken stupor.
