Staff at Keflavík Airport requested the assistance of local police yesterday to help with a drunk passenger who had arrived on a flight from Montreal. The man's girlfriend and travel companion had asked for help locating the man who had disappeared after the couple landed. They were set to board a plane to continue their trip to Paris.

A runaway boyfriend
The local news site Víkurfréttir reports that the woman told police that she had been unable to control the man after their plane from Montreal landed in Keflavík. He had been drinking heavily on board the plane, growing increasingly rebellious and once they landed in Iceland, he ran off.

According to police the man was obviously intoxicated when officers approached him. The officers tried, but failed to have a civilized conversation with the man, due to his excessive drinking and agitated state. He was therefore arrested for public intoxication and taken to the Police station in Keflavík, where he was offered the opportunity to sleep off the alcohol.

An unexpected romantic stop-over in Iceland?
We do not know whether the man's girlfriend continued her flight to Paris alone, or if she waited for his release, but we do feel it is somewhat unlikely that she considered his involuntary stay at the Keflavík police station a surprise romantic stop-over in Iceland.
